System Benefits

DURABILITY

The couplings, when correctly installed have a design life of 100 years. They are normally suitable for use above and below ground without additional protection due to the high quality of materials used in their construction.

Additional protection may be required with couplings incorporating grade 1.4301 (304) or 1.4306 stainless steel in made-up ground such as industrial spill or colliery spoil and in cases where the ground or ground water contains chloride. In these cases a proprietary protection tape such as 'Densotape' will give satisfactory protection or alternatively couplings incorporating grade 1.4401 (316) stainless steel can be used.

MATERIALS

Standard, Drain, Adaptor & Bushes
The elastomeric sleeves of the above couplings are made from synthetic elastomers. Normally either Ethylene Propylene Di-Methyl (EPDM) or Styrene Butadiene (SBR) rubber is used. Both these elastomers offer excellent resistance to normal sewage and drainage effluents, though EPDM does have the advantage of being inherently resistant to ozone. For situations where the effluent contains hydrocarbons, fats, oil, greases etc. then sleeves manufactured from Nitrile Rubber are available. Normal sleeves made from synthetic elastomer (EPDM or SBR) conform to BS EN681-1: 'Elastomeric joint rings for pipework and pipelines - drainage'. They also comply to the requirements of ISO/DIS4633: 1986, and AS 1646. Oil resistant sleeves manufactured in Nitrile Rubber conform to BS 2494: Type G: 1990 'Elastomeric joint rings for pipework and pipelines - gas and hydrocarbon fluids' .

Standard Couplings over 620mm
The elastomeric body or sleeve is made from dual hardness strip manufactured using the latest moulding technology. The strip, in either EPDM or nitrile has the main section in 60 IRHD elastomer for long term performance and stability, and the raised sections under the clamping bands in 40 IRHD elastomer for effective sealing performance on all but the roughest pipe surface.

Specialty Couplings and End Caps
The moulded sleeve is made from Neoprene, an elastomeric material conforming to ASTM: C564-88. Rubber gaskets for cast iron soil pipe and fittings.
