Chemical inertness

Chemical resistance

Vitrified clay pipes and fittings are immune to attack by all alkalis or acids contained in waste water and ground water or in the earth, with the exception of hydrofluoric acid.

Physical properties

The most important properties which might be required for calculation purposes are listed in the following table:

Specific weight kN / m3 22
Bending tensile strength N / nm2 15 - 40
Compression strength N / nm2 100 - 200
Tensile strength N / nm2 10 - 20
Hardness to "Mohs"   >7
Modulus of elasticity N / nm2 >50.000
Coefficient of thermal expansion 1 / k > 5 * 10-6
Thermal conductivity W / m*k >1,2

Column 8 Evaluation
- testing on pieces of the jointing material:
1 = excellent resistance
2 = sufficient resistance
3 = relatively resistance
4 = not resistent

- tests on complete joints and tightness test afterwards:
A = tight, no damage
B = tight, slight damage
C = doubtful, damage
D = leak, damage
